No Shoes and the Day was Freezing Book Launch @ City of Tea Tree Gully
This year has seen several local authors launch their books at the City of Tea Tree Gully Library, the most recent
being North Easter Writers convenor Ken Vincent. Ken launched his recently
published novella “Butterfly Girl” and his dark poetry collection “No shoes and
the day was freezing” to a near capacity crowd.
Ken worked as a social worker and then as a manager for Families SA before
retiring, relying on some of the horrific circumstances he witnessed as the basis
for both his book and some of his poems. Some of his poems are an eye-opener
for the reader, visually and empathically transmitting the feelings of
helplessness and horror, astounding the reader with the conditions and
experiences that some of the less-fortunate must endure.
South Australian Writer’s Centre office manager and poet Jude Aquilina
launched Ken’s poetry book, whilst local writer and social welfare colleague
Sharon Kernot launched the novella. Winemaker Kerrie from KT and the Falcon
was on hand providing a selection of her vintage. Local publisher Ginninderra
Press were also in attendance promoting their services to the local writing
community.
The City of Tea Tree Gully Library has been fortunate to be located in a region with so many talented local
writers!
